DONKEY?!

Shrek! That’s what comes to mind when I think of the term, “Donkey.” I can just hear him now, that quaint and unmistakable Aussie accent, hollering at his unwanted sidekick, “Donkey.”
“Not much use,” you say for a donkey. “Beast of burden and not good for much else,” you say. He’s just a donkey! Just a dumb ass, a jackass, an old mule. Stubborn, rebellious and one we could just as easily do without, as use." Hmmm. What say Jesus, mate?
Luke 19:30-31 (HCSB) 30 and said, “Go into the village ahead of you. As you enter it, you will find a young donkey tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say this: ‘The Lord needs it.’”
We say, “Dumb ass!” We say, “As dumb as a donkey!” We say, “Ugly mule.” We say, “Tie it up.” Like Baalam, we will beat to death what is saving our lives. We will accuse the donkey of betrayal and rebellion when in fact, that which we have over evaluated and underestimated, has been blessed with life saving revelation. Baalam’s donkey saw the angel of God that the greedy prophet could not see. (Numbers 22:20-35)
There are people in our churches and organizations that are just like the donkey! Over evaluated and underestimated and hardly appreciated as a result. It is time to loose them. They have been tied up too long... far too long. In this end time, we need every single hand on deck, without delay! Donkeys are not sexy like horses are. They are not cool like horses are. They are not show stoppers like horses are. They are not valued as good for our corporate image like horses are. Horses represent our best, our flashiest, our brightest and our ideals. Donkeys, well, we would rather bury them in the backroom like stock boys and cooks at our favorite fast food joints. Yet in this last hour, it is donkeys that we need.
Contrary to popular opinion, donkeys are loyal. Donkeys are obedient. Ask Baalam’s ride! Donkeys are ugly - that’s true but they get the job done. They don’t go to war and charge the enemy in the heat of battle, but every soldier is grateful that there is a donkey to carry his provisions and weapons for the siege. Jesus needed a donkey.
We need workers! People that we tie up because they are not perfect, are needed. People that we have degraded because they just never seem to get it, are needed. People that we have ignored because we have assumed they will never learn, are needed. Loose them! Break these chains and release them for their prophetic destiny. ‘Nuff said!
The church is over-funded and underemployed! The harvest is great and the laborers are few. We need laborers - not beauty queens! We need preachers, Bible study teachers, prayer warriors, and small group leaders. Release your people! Bring them to Jesus! Let them work! Every hand on deck! The King is coming! “Donkey?!”
