Day Camps

Churches are challenged with being relevant in a post-modern society. Being community conscious is one way of remaining relevant. This relevance is mandated by Jesus Christ who teaches us to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength while loving our neighbors as ourselves. Loving people makes God relevant to them through targeted acts of kindness like clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry and liberating the indebted from financial oppression.

Whether it is the March Break or it is Summer Break from school, our KFC Day Camps offer specialized care for special needs kids, exceptional care for smaller children, numerous activities every day for everyone, leadership training for volunteers and great learning experiences.

Breakfast is served along with a healthy dose of Scripture and faith. After all, life is not complete without God. Loving God is as much a part of life as loving people and at our camps, your child will receive both the love of God and the love of people.

What a great program! Instituted by our former Christian Education Director, Esther has turned her love for children into a mission. First it was the Day Camps which have been hugely successful. Now, it is the Community Christmas Party and Gift Giveaway.

KFC kids are gathered together to go caroling in the suburb of Barrhaven, whereby they raise money to pay for the costs of hosting a Christmas party for children living in inner-city housing projects. It is amazing to see what Esther and these children accomplish.

We have a vibrant and talented music department at Bibleway. Our gifted members have seen the stages of many churches, Bluesfest Gospel Tents and Urban Prayze Nite. They have hosted numerous concerts too. One of those concerts is OXYGEN - Nation (refreshing a generation). This year, they made a change and asked that patrons support the Barrhaven Food Cupboard by donating a non-perishable food item.

How did it go? Well, it went very well indeed. They blessed the Food Cupboard with several pounds of needed groceries. It felt good to give back and by God's grace, it will be the norm at future concert events.

The stories of the homeless, the mentally ill and tormented, drug and gambling addicted are far removed from the everyday lives of our middle class. We live in suburbia for the most part. They live in the city core. We hardly ever meet and sadly, we hardly ever care.

Our Youth Pastor, Caleb, came up with this idea to help the downtrodden via the Lighthouse Project. It is a work of love. The homeless have it tough everyday, but no glad tiding seems to come their way. This is especially worse at Christmas time.

The Lighthouse project projects hope, love and glad tidings. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, water, hot beverages and more are distributed to random men and women in need of being delighted that anyone would bother to stop and care for them.
